UPCYCLED VINTAGE WEDDING DRESS
Inspired by the movie 'Labyrinth'
Sourcing a vintage wedding dress from a thrift store, I took it apart & used it to create a simpler, more practical version of Sarah’s dress that I could wear as a costume & at my upcoming wedding. To make the dress as modular as possible I made six separate pieces that could be worn on their own or together to simulate a full ball gown.
I started with the skirt, using the original wedding dress skirt as a base layer. I cut off the train & re-did the hemline so it would sit nicely with panniers underneath. I then made a pattern by tracing the altered skirt & cut 6 layers of tulle; 3 white & 3 sequinned yellow (to add depth & sparkle)
I removed the sleeves from the Bodice & closed up the seams to make it sleeveless. I added corset boning to give it more structure & replaced the zipper with grommets & lacing.

I added the same tulle to the puff of the dress sleeves & attached an elastic casing to the top & bottom to keep the puffs off the shoulder without sliding down.

The lower half of the sleeves were actually gloves; a handmade pattern with a white curtain material as the base layer. a layer of yellow tulle sandwhiched between two white ones finished off the the look, while an elastic & handstitched finger loop kept everything in place.
